We are back to normal! I can stand food again and John's back bothers him. Yep, normal. Today was clean up day. Disinfectant was flying from ceiling to floor. Especially in the bathroom! Yesterday, just to get out of the house, we took a trip to the local store. I had fun picking out what to show you. Here are a few things I thought was interesting..... This is called dragon fruit. I don't think I have tried it yet but I thought the pile of it was so pretty. Purple...my color. Not sure what this thing is called but it looked menacing. Like a weapon of some sort. I need a Chinese friend to show me what to do with these things! Rice anyone? Why do they have so many containers? I looked them over and I think they are different kinds. Just slight differences between them. Freaks me to see the shoppers, especially children running their hands thru the rice as if it is a play toy...yuck. Where have those hands been? This is a row of dried spices, herbs and such. Looks like sticks to me. Wish I knew what they were for. I might actually cook something that taste like Chinese food! Now this is the part of the store that I avoid. A whole row of dried fish and other unrecognizable stuff. See the next picture. Is it dried snake? More spices in a row. And finally ....the best for last....... Well, that is my tour of the strange and amusing things at our local store. I am sure some of you all are asking what is so strange about that, right? But for me...it is different. Thanks for visiting with me. Feel free to leave a comment if you wish.
Love and hugs...Cindy

The dragon fruit is even prettier when you open it. That startling pink contrasted with bright white speckled with jet black seeds. Someone was very creative! The second one be careful with. The ripened durian smells like rotten meat! It has a cramy texture right before its fully ripe and isn't so smelly. Those "sticks" are Chinese sausage. Nasty! They're sweet, how weird is that? The yellow powders are ground grains. Grits! And all kinds of flours for making great REAL whole grain bread. Definitely try these out! The dried fish I've tried hasbeenthe tiny dried shrimp, they are super salty and great in Thai dishes like papaya salad. Hope this helps. I'm glad to find your blog! Now I can return all those comments! WELCOME TO CHINA!

Oh, if you want to make your own sushi, pick the shortes grain rice, it's stickier. The bright white really short grain makes awesome sweet sticky rice with mango! Put it in the rice cooker with part of the water, sub the rest with coconut milk. Cook as usual. Yummy!

Oh yeah that does sound good. John is such a buttered rice fan that I may get him to try a different way to eat rice if I put his favorite flavor, coconut, in it. Thanks for the recipe.

The Dragon Fruit is good! Be sure to try it! I tried it in NY... I think it is supposed to be sweet... I didn't find such a strong taste but it's a new fruit so try it... reminds me of the stuff that grown on cactus.

Good to hear from you Calla!! I think I have had the dragon fruit before in the states but didn't know what the outside looked like. I will get it the next time I am in the store. Thanks for all your encouragement and help before we left. Hug our books for us!
