I had caught a head cold a week after moving to our apartment and now John has a cold. More in his chest. I guess this is to be expected since we are being exposed to a whole new set of viruses! Hope all of you are well. Please remember that this and the comments we get are not a secure line. Everything and anything sent thru the internet can be and will be screened by watchful eyes. Life is wonderful and strange at the same time! Here we are in a world so different from the one we left and yet it is so familiar. The people are not different. They just do things differently. We all eat and sleep, work and play but not the same way. For example, sleeping. I really enjoyed our Sleep Number bed. We both could pick our choice of hard or soft or inbetween. Here the beds are just hard. The beds have a piece of wood with a very thin layer of quilt. That's it! Sitting on a bed makes a thud sound. We had to sleep on one in the Hotels we have stayed in both in Hong Kong and in mainland. If we had not been so exhausted from our travels we could not have even closed our eyes. Thankfully, since moving into our apartment, we have secured a bed that is comfortable. It looks nice, too. White iron scroll like and high off the ground. That gave us room underneath to store our 4 big suitcases and made it easier for us to get in and out of it. So many of the beds we saw were a foot off the floor! So now I really look forward to climbing in bed! When I get my camera I'll take a picture. Right now, I really need to change the curtains in the room. They are gold, the walls are yellow and the sun rises on the side of our bedroom. It is like the sun is IN our bedroom each morning! I am on the hunt for thicker curtains. Well, so much for sleeping. Maybe next time I'll tell you about the food here. It is something to see. All the strange looking stuff they sell on the street and in the stores!

Hello everyone! I am glad you found our new blog.
I am new at this and hope I can get better at it so all you Tech experts out there be kind to me. We are having an adventure here for sure. China has given us some surprises. We have surprised ourselves as well. Transportation has been a real hoot. We travel by Metro or subway, bus, taxis and by foot. Mostly it has been easy to navigate around using the metro maps but the buses require more effort. There is no written schedule to follow. The locals call a number and tell the operator where they are and where they want to go and they tell them what buses to take. That is hard to do since we don’t speak the language yet. But what fun! A bus ride is somewhat like a rolleroaster ride. It pitches, plunges, surges and rocks so you better hang on or land on the floor. I prefer the Metro. It is clean and easy to ride. Except at rush hour. Then the object of the game is how many people can you fit in a square foot area and still be able to breath. We have twice been on the Metro at rush hour and it is a hoot! I can’t help but giggle at the situation which creates more stares and a few even have laughed with me. Oh well…the saying here is “Welcome to China!”. I unfortunatly lost my camera. So as soon as I get a new one I can add new pictures to the blog. I had a collection of pics on my camera of squat toilets. Can you imagine what the new owners of my camera must be thinking when they reviewed my pictures! Take care and come visit again! Love and hugs…..John and Cindy |
